TODAY IN HOUSING

Leaseholders across the country are receiving bills from landlords when major works are carried out to their buildings and Hackney Homes leaseholders are no different. That is why we work with a number of organisations to help support leaseholders so that they can make manageable repayments.
Over the past year, we have invited over 500 leaseholders to a financial advice day where they met with advisory agencies and local organisations who can support them with helping to pay their bills.
Agencies such as Leasehold Advisory Services (LEASE), CHAS debt advice agency and Age Concern are able to provide leaseholders with independent advice about the bills that they have and options for payment.
Hackney Homes also continues to offer one of the most flexible range of payment options in London for leaseholders with major works bills. We offer a 5% prompt payment discount, 12, 24, and 36 month repayment periods, a discretionary mortgage from the Council, and the option for leaseholders over 60 years of age to place a charge on the property becoming payable when the property is sold.
Hackney Homes Head of Leasehold and Right to Buy Services, Pat Ronayne said: “We know that leaseholders face major works bills and that is why we continue to support them with advice and information as well as flexible repayment options”.
